Book So whilst I was on holiday I read Nerve. The nerve is about a girl called Venus who – before the book starts – nearly accidentally kills herself whilst listening to music. She is then pressured by her friend to play a dare game, Nerve, to prove she’s not a wimp. Basically, this book was awful. Don’t read it unless your life depends on it. The characters were constantly changing what they thought, Vee (Venus) is really confident about doing the final round one minute, the next she’s screaming and trying to get out for no reason. I didn't feel connected to the main character which I believe was my main problem, I think that had I connected to the main characters fear and desperation then I would have been completely gripped and this for me would have been a five star read. Despite it all, I was hooked to the storyline of the book and I did find the plot creative and interesting. It kind of reminded me of Sword Art Online, which is one of my all time favourite manga and kind of has a similar concept to both Warcross which is coming out later this year and Ready Player One which actually has a movie coming out next year.
However, with the issues it has I’m going to have to give it *drum roll* 2/5 stars
Movie Having read the book I know the plot was completely different. This I was thankful for since I felt the last section of the book dragged on and didn’t have much bite to it. The changes that the film implemented were completely gripping and had me hooked to the screen. The movie was amazing! I loved all the changes they made, the characters were a lot meatier and Ian was more mysterious, and Vee seemed like less of an annoying little brat. The movie was completely thrilling and I would most definitely see it again. It is without a doubt one of the best books to movies of all time, I think it may even be better than Warm Bodies *gasp*. I feel as though this book was written purely to make a movie out of, if so great job to the writer because the movie was beautiful.
5/5 stars
